Barn Life

These are our 6 months old barn cats. Genevieve on the left, and Groenemeyer on the right. They are tough cookies!! At times it is very cold in the barn but they have a nice, cozy 'nest' and they keep each other warm, too. Last week they both got 'fixed'....you can actually see it on her belly. It went well, without any problems.

"Two are better than one, .... if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? " Ecclesiastes 4:9 ...

(Yes, this is also in the Bible. There is more to read about the subject "Two is better than one"... in case you are interested, read up on it)

Das sind unsere 6 Monate alten Stallkatzen. Genevieve links u Groenemeyer rechts.

The Deer Family

Here you see them on our grass field across from our house. This photo is from last week, but today it looks just the same. It is very windy today and school is 2 hours delayed because of the high winds.

Ice - Ice

This photo is from Sunday. Taken through my kitchen window.By now it warmed up a bit and it looks like we get a short winter break again. Although it is still white all around us on the hill!

Look what I made!

I do realize, that this is a boring post, especially for men, so please forgive me! I did crochet this for my daughter (and I am proud of it, can you tell ;-))
Nothing new here otherwise...
Schaut mal was ich gemacht habe!
Ansonsten hier nichts Neues....

My Morning View in the Little Forest

This is what it looks like when I sit at my table, have my coffee and look to the right.(I have to laugh at myself, even if I don't have my coffee, it still looks like this!!)
We received a dusting of snow overnight. Again. But I see in the weather forecast, that from tomorrow in it will be milder again during the day.

Blue Sky above the Little House

At least the sun shines and we have blue sky.... I have to admit, this year I somehow can't wait for winter to end. Unfortunately is is only January...long way to go!
(blauer Himmel ueber unserem Haus)

Hawk - Falke

Yesterday we went to the local farmer's country store to buy shavings for the barn when we came accross this fellow. He was sitting underneath the loading truck, very relaxed, I guess he knew we could not get to him. Notice that he sits on one foot, the other one is underneath the feathers to keep it warm. I am sure that there are a lot of mice in and around the store and that's why this guy was there.... waiting.

... ganz still und stumm.
That is a German nursery rhyme, it means something like "a little man is standing all quiet in the forest"...
I said four little men are standing ...that's what I thought when I walked by these tree stumps. We got fresh snow over night. What else is new...
But I have to admit it looks pretty and it is all calm and sunny outside, very cold though.

Under the Weather

This is our dog Abby. She is still battling kennel cough. She is done with her antibiotics and still coughs. She did get this, although she was immunized against it. ..Is there anybody out there who knows how long that can take?
Abby's owners also have colds (in case anybody is interested!!)
Oh my - oh my.
Jammer, Jammer.

It is cold Outside!

Last weekend was a long weekend in America, we celebrated Martin Luther King Day. All our children were home for the weekend! That was nice. So they tackled the puzzle that we got for a Christmas gift on our pool table in the family room.

Deer in the Little Forest

Although we see them quite often, it always makes me smile when I see them wandering through our woods. I took this photo through our living room window; you can see the top of our deck railing. There was actually a whole herd of 5 walking through, real slow, always watching the house. I call them 'the survivors' because they survived the hunting season! By the way, this year my husband didn't get anything! Good for them ;-))

Aufgefangen - I got you

This tree is in our 'fruit field'. In winter it stands out and the other day, when I looked at it, I thought "Carry each other's burdens"...from the letter to the Galatians.

Daisy Mae chewing an Apple

I think this is a cute photo of her. She always lays her ears back when she eats, but that is because she is just so excited to get a treat!
Yes, we still have snow! It seems that we are THE ONLY place around that is still white!! We really do live on top of a mountain !!

Mourning Dove - Trauertaube

This dove came only one time to our feeder. When I took the photo I thought already that I would show it today, because one year ago today our dear friend and brother-in-law Volker (39) went to heaven.
Let us find comfort in God's Word:

" God will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4

Offenbarung 21:4

Volker - unvergessen.

There is Light at the End of the ....

...driveway!
That happens sometimes, that we are in the shade and across from us is the sun.

Trip down Memory Lane

Dear Blogger Friends, since all I see is snow these days, I decided to show these two photos to make you smile. They were taken 1987 in my hometown Kiedrich. This was our car at that time. It was a french made car named 2CV, the Germans call it lovingly 'the duck', of course they don't manufacture this car anymore, but I tell you, it was worth the trip!!! You see me here with my 4 sisters. Don't you think we were all beauties? Do you recognize me??? Well...enjoy.
Viel Spass!

You Make My Day Award

Yesterday I received this award from Olivier and today I received it from Wanda! And today I received it from Pedi! Thank you so much!! I feel honored. Actually, you make my day, too, when I look at your blogs, that are done with love.

I want to pass this award on to Monika, who is showing us her "Stadtgarten" (Country living in the city) and who lives in 'my' city in Germany and to Angela Marie who is always so super friendly and welcoming.

Resting Place in the Little Forest

Overnight, yesterday and today, we got some snow again. Needless to say, I can't rest on our bench right now!! But when it is warm and dry I often sit on this bench and pray. It is very quiet here, you only hear the birds or the barking of neighbor dogs farther off. Very peaceful.
Sehr friedlich.

Cardinals in the Little Forest

Here you can see Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal on our patio. I always enjoy their visits! More great bird photos HERE!
Hier koennt ihr Herr u. Frau Kardinal auf unserer Terrasse sehen. Ich freue mich immer ueber ihren Besuch.
Andere, tolle Vogelbilder koennt ihr HIER sehen.

Sunrise in the Little Forest

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
1 Peter 2:9

1 Petrus 2,9 (Sonnenaufgang letzte Woche)

Phalaenopsis - The Moth Orchid

Look what my daughter gave me for Christmas! Isn't it beautiful? This is the first orchid I ever had and I hope it will survive in the Little House in the Forest!

Horsing Around in the Little Forest

By now all of the snow is gone, because we still have mild weather. Our daughter is very happy that she gets the chance to ride more. Every day she is out there on the horse. Here you see her jumping over her self-made jump. Daisy loves it, too.

Presenting: Groenemeyer!

Since you didn't see much of him yesterday, here he is in all his beauty! The second photo shows him in the tree shortly before he fell. He is a very curious guy, I think he tried to eat the last leave on that tree.

Curiosity kills the Cat?

Thankfully, Groenemeyer did not get killed last week! I saw him way up in the tree and grabbed the camera, then sure enough, he wandered onto a loose branch and fell....down .... down... down... and - walked away, while his sister watched him from a secure place on the ground!

Our Creek - Unser Bach

Yesterday and today we have record high temperatures in the mid 60s!! By now almost all the snow is gone. That is unbelieveable, because a few days ago we had so much snow and temps. in the teens during the day!!
This is crazy! But it feels good.

Snow Melt in the Little Forest

This seems too good to be true! Our snow is melting with high temp. in the low 60s today!! However, we can't be fooled. Winter is not over yet!! This is just a break of the ice and snow. Feels like Florida to us!

The title is a German saying, meaning "Yesterday's Snow", meaning whatever we talk about is in the past.
Well, this here, is really "Schnee von gestern". It is actually from Wednesday, but today it is very mild and the snow is melting. It will take a while before all is gone, because we have a lot of it, but right now it is already very soft and dirty in the pasture.

Morning in the Little Forest

The day before yesterday I walked around the pasture and checked the fence and took this photo of our 'ranch'.
:-)

Hi Amy M. ! This one is for you :-)

This is my shadow taken yesterday on my walk. The last couple of days we had a lot of snow and it was very cold (during the day about 12 deg. F.)
Amy is one of the readers who looks at my blog daily, but never leaves a comment. So now I want to greet her!! Hi Amy,have a great day, 'little sis'.

Thursday, January 03, 2008

Of course you 'guessed' it all...it is indeed Daisy having breakfast. I just love her fuzzy face.
Did you enlarge the photo? It is much better in large.

Close up on ....?

Through the Window

Today is 'back to reality' for us.
School and work started again!
I wanted to show you how nice our little barn outside looks through my kitchen window. It matches my cabinets, doesn't it?

Happy New Year!

This image of our bench with the untouched snow reminded me of the new year that lies before us... untouched, without blemish, a new beginning.
All the best to all of you out there!!
Alles Gute an alle 'da draussen'!!
