That is amber. It leaks out of trees and sometimes captures insects in it and maybe a thousand years from now the insect will look perfectly preserved in the amber. It is coming out many different places on my old cherry tree that is dying.

It will eventually become a fossil or fossilized.

Correct answer T. Tree sap, be it maple or pine is resin and that turns in to amber after fossilizing.

It looks like tree sap to me. I don't know the scientific word for it. It makes for an interesting photo! I guess it comes out during the winter time.

Sorry for not commenting in a while... I've been away for a few days and don't seem to be able to catch up very quickly :)

I have no idea, but it looks like a sap of some sort. Had to stop in and see what was happening to you this week.

My sister loves this.. has many pieces of jewelery in this. A couple of them even have an insect in it. Isn't that amazing? They really are beautiful.
