Wood Work

I don't know whether this is the right title for the post. What I meant, my husband had work with the wood that fell during the stormy winter days onto our trails.
We had two big evergreens that blew over and last weekend my husband had the chance to cut them up and free the paths.
Mein Mann hatte Arbeit im Wald! Im Laufe des Winters hatten wir paar Mal starke Stuerme u zwei Baeume sind auf unsere Waldpfade gefallen u haben den Weg versperrt. Am Wochenende nun hat mein Mann sie zersaegt u die Wege wieder frei gemacht.

Spring has Sprung in the Little Forest!

Yesterday was a wonderful day! For the first time this year I could even lie outside on my chair and read. It felt so good!
Gestern war ein wunderschoener Tag! Zum ersten Mal in diesem Jahr konnte ich sogar auf der Terrasse in der Sonne liegen u lesen. Das war so schoen!

Sunny Day in the Little Forest

Today we woke up to bright sunshine! How nice.
The trees are still bare but when I walked through the woods yesterday I could see teeny tiny buds!

Heute wurden wir wach u die Sonne schien so schoen! Die Baeume sind zwar noch kahl, aber als ich gestern duch den Wald lief sah ich winzig kleine Knospen!

Today is a rainy day. At least so far. Our fruit field is still very wet!
It is hard to believe that soon it will be all green with high grass and bushes and flowers.
Heute ist ein regnerischer Tag. Jedenfalls bisher. Unser "Fruechtefeld" ist noch immer sehr nass! Kaum zu glauben, dass es bald ganz gruen sein wird mit hohen Graesern, Bueschen und Blumen!

Snow Melt in the Little Forest

Not much going on here...
Just that we have 'rivers' and 'creeks' in places where normally everything is dry. In the valley, in the shade, are a few snow patches left. Otherwise spring has sprung!!
Hier gibt es nicht viel Neues...
Wir haben nun halt Baeche u 'Fluesse' an Stellen wo es normalerweise keine gibt. Nur im Tal, im Schatten, liegen noch Schneereste. Ansonsten ist hier nun auch der Fruehling auf dem Vormarsch!!

A Horse, a girl and their cats

I had to show you this! Every day we see the same picture! Our daughter goes on a ride and the barn cats follow her down the driveway, full of excitement and joy! It is so funny to watch.
That was yesterday. The snow is almost all gone.
Das musste ich euch zeigen! Jeden Tag sehen wir das gleiche Bild! Unsere Tochter geht auf einen Ausritt u die Stallkatzen folgen ihr die Einfahrt runter, voller Begeisterung und Freude! Es ist so lustig anzusehen.
Das war gestern; der Schnee ist nun fast ganz weg.

Foehn Weather in the Little Forest

These photos are from yesterday. The temperatures were in the mid 60s and the snow all around us was melting like crazy! Our little creek was once again like a river! And very loud! I wish you could hear it.
It was definitely an April day! We had sun, clouds, wind, rain. Just the snow was missing ;-)
On the last picture you see our house in the background.
Gestern hatten wir Foehn. Die Temperaturen waren um die 15 G. C. u es war ein typischer Apriltag mit Wind, Regen, Sonne... wir hatten alles,nur keinen Schnee ;-) Der war am Schmelzen, wie verrueckt, und unser kleiner Bach war mal wieder wie ein Fluss! Und so laut! Ich wollte ihr koenntet das mal hoeren.
Auf dem letzten Bild sieht man im Hintergrund unser Haus.

Mourning Doves - Trauertauben

Sunday morning we discovered this pair of doves sitting in the tree right in front of our patio. They were there for a long time, basking in the sun.
Am Sonntag morgen haben wir diese Tauben im Baum direkt vor unserer Terasse entdeckt. Sie sassen da eine lange Zeit u sonnten sich.

Boys are Home!

This weekend all my kids were home again! That was nice! Here are the cars of our sons. Normally this parking area is empty! But when the boys are home I look out and see this, so I thought I share it with you.
Our oldest son has a pick-up truck and that came handy because we were almost out of hay. So he went and got hay with his little sis and let her even drive up the driveway! That was her first 'driving lesson' and she was very happy about it!
Dieses Wochenende waren mal wieder alle meine Kinder daheim! Das war schoen! Hier seht ihr die Autos der 'Buben'. Normalerweise ist dieser Parkplatz leer, aber wenn die Jungs daheim ist, sieht's so aus u ich dachte, ich zeige euch das mal.
Unser aeltester Sohn faehrt einen Pick-up-Truck u hat zusammen mit seiner kl. Schwester Heu geholt, denn es war fast alles weg.
Sie durfte dann sogar die Einfahrt hochfahren! Das war ihre erste "Fahrstunde" und sie war ganz gluecklich drueber!

Another Day in Paradise ;-)

When I was young, I was a big Phil Collins fan, hence the title of the post ;-)
Isn't it a glorious morning? My husband said, it reminds him of Austria, where we went on winter vacations many years ago.
In my bible reading this morning I came across Luke 12:32 and I felt like sharing it with you because I liked what Jesus said:
"Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom" . I love it!
Als ich jung war, war ich grosser Phil Collins Fan. Daher der Titel!
Ist es nicht ein wunderschoener Morgen? Die Sonne scheint heute so schoen u der Schnee glitzert in der Sonne. Mein Mann sagte gerade vorhin, es erinnert ihn an Oesterreich, wo wir frueher oefter in Winterurlaub waren.
In meiner Bibellesung heute morgen las ich Lukas 12:32 u das gefiel mir so gut, was Jesus sagte, dass ich es hier aufschreibe:
"Fuerchte dich nicht, du kleine Herde! Denn euer Vater hat beschlossen, euch das Reich zu geben"

Oh Wonderful!!

This is what we woke up to this morning! Actually the beeping of our fire detectors woke us, because we lost power because of the heavy snow.
By now the power is restored and we are 'enjoying' the view and the long weekend. The snow will not stay long, because the temp. are above freezing. But this is definitely the most snow in one night for the season!
So sieht die Welt also heute morgen aus! Wir wurden von dem Gepiepse unseres Feuermelders geweckt, weil wir wegen der Schneemassen Stromausfall hatten. In der Zwischenzeit funktioniert aber wieder alles und so machen wir das beste aus der Situation und erfreuen uns des langen Wochenendes! Der Schnee bleibt sicherlich nicht lange, denn die Temp. sind ueber Null C. Das ist aber der groesste Schneefall in einer Nacht fuer diese Saison.

Cat & Squirrel Play

On Tuesday my husband and I watched Groenemeyer on our patio as he tried to figure out whether a squirrel is a friend or an 'enemy'. It was funny!! Enlarge the photos to see!
Am Dienstag haben mein Mann u ich Groenemeyer auf unserer Terrasse beobachtet, wie er sich fuer ein Eichhoernchen interessiert hat. Er wusste nicht, ob es ein Freund oder ein Feind ist, das war lustig anzusehen! Vergroessert das Foto!

Birthday in the Little Forest

Today is my husband's and my daughter's birthday! 13 years ago the little baby girl, who is a teenager now, was my birthday present for my huz!

Feast in the Little Forest

We had very nice Easter weather! Cold, but sunny. On my walks through the woods I noticed the craws and the hawk. They normally are not close by. Over the weekend I could even take pictures of them through the living room window. My husband told me that there was a dead animal in the woods and that's why we had these guests!
And by the way we did have 'real' guests, too, and we had a feast also!!
Unser Osterwetter war gut. Sonnig, aber kalt. Auf meinen Spaziergaengen durch den Wald sind mit die Kraehen u ein Falke aufgefallen. Normallerweise sehe ich sie selten nahe am Haus. Nun konnte ich sie sogar durch's Wohnzimmerfenster fotographieren. Mein Mann gab mir die Erklaerung: Ein totes Tier liegt hier in der Naehe u deshalb hatten wir diese Gaeste!
(Auch die Menschen im Kleinen Wald hatten ein Festessen u Gaeste hatte wir auch!)

Happy Easter!

I found this cross at the cemetery in Kiedrich.
On the bottom it reads Matthew 28:20 "I am with you always, to the very end of the age".
That came to mind today as I was thinking of the empty tomb. There is a church song we sing in Germany "The grave is empty, the hero is awoken, the Lord is risen"...
Dieses Kreuz habe ich auf dem Kiedricher Friedhof fotographiert. Es zeigt eine biblische Inschrift die mir gerade heute, an Ostern, wo ich an das leere Grab denke, viel bedeutet.
Mir fiel auch ein, dass man in Deutschland ein Kirchenlied singt "Das Grab ist leer, der Held erwacht, der Heiland ist erstanden"....
In diesem Sinne, Frohe Ostern!

Amazing Grace

This crucifixion group is outside my hometown church in Kiedrich/Rheingau - Germany.
When I was young I hardly paid attention to it. Now I wonder and think that people must really have loved and honored the Lord hundreds of years ago to built such a big monument for him - inside the church and outside. Today I wish I would have looked at it more and pondered the meaning of it; it would have helped me in years past. But now I am glad that ' I was lost but now I am found'....
Diese Kreuzigungsgruppe befindet sich im Kirchhof meiner Heimatgemeinde Kiedrich im Rheingau. Als ich jung war habe ich sie kaum beachtet. Heutzutage wundere ich mich u denke darueber nach, was die Menschen damals bewegt hat unserem Herrn Jesus so ein grosses Denkmal zu setzen (auch innen in der Kirche befindet sich ein grosses Kreuz), sie muessen den Heiland sehr geliebt haben. Heute denke ich, ich wollte ich hatte schon frueher ueber die Bedeutung des Kreuzes nachgedacht, es haette mir in vergangenen Jahre geholfen. Trotzdem bin ich froh dass ich es nun gefunden haben... wie in dem Lied 'Amazing Grace'.
