Different Kind of Wood Work

Sorry about the snow picture....but I wanted to show you the hole the woodpecker made into one of our dead trees next to the creek.
I came across this one when I took photos of the creek when it was so big last week.
Isn't it impressive?

I did not know that the "woodpecker" could be as big holes.

It's amazing what woodpeckers can do with their little beaks. They must get lots of headaches! Have a great weekend!

My goodness Gudl...must have been plenty of insects inside that old tree...looks like he has come back more than once during the winter...I once saw a National Geographic special on the Woodpecker...they are made quite uniquely for just such a task. I hope you have good sunshine today...Dee Dee

Interesting. I wonder if he will come back and finish the job so eventually someone can move in....like a blue bird or something.

Neat hole. Do you know what kind of woodpecker it is?

Hi Old Man Lincoln,
we think it is a Pileated Woodpecker. We have seen it from a distant and hear it, but it doesn't come close to the house.

WOW! What is up with that? Was that Woodpecker stressed out or just really overzealous... Amazing!
