Reverse View

These photos I took from the house with the timber frame where we had the party (see my explanation from yesterday). Again you see the house of the duke and on the right the dark roof, that is my parent's house where I grew up in.
The other photos show the entrance of the house and views of the church yard around it. The church bay window that you see, it the Chapel I mentioned yesterday.

View out of my Mother's Bathroom Window

I thought you might like this view! The church you see was built originally in the 13th century, it is called "Valentinuskirche" (St. Valentine's church), next to it you see the tower (steeple) of another, smaller church, it is called "Michael's chapel". The house to the right with the small tower is actually a privately owned house, that was built in the 17th century by a duke. The smaller house between has lots of old timberframe. That is where we celebrated my Aunt's 60th birthday just a week ago...And the neighbor next to my Mom's has a pool ;-)
Den Deutschen brauch ich ja nicht viel zu erzaehlen! Ich hatte das Foto eigentlich nur aufgenommen, weil ich mal zeigen wollte, wie der Nachbargarten mit dem kleinen Pool nun aussieht. Sogar eine richtige Palme steht da! Ob die den Winter ueberlebt? Hier wuerde das nicht gehen!!

Burg Scharfenstein

This is the almost 1000 year old tower of a castle that used to stand there overlooking the river Rhine.
It lies outside of my hometown "Kiedrich" in the Rhinevalley.
I just got back from my trip home. It was great. But now I am tired!!

Fall Colors in the Little Forest

Slowly our trees are beginning to turn. On my walk a couple of days ago I collected these different colored leaves to show you the beauty of it.
I hope you enjoy it! Because that is what you will look at for a week, because I am going on a trip to the 'fatherland'.

Langsam beginnt sich unser Wald zu verfaerben. Auf meinem Spaziergang vor zwei Tagen habe ich diese bunten Blaetter gesammelt um sie euch zu zeigen. Ich hoffe, sie gefallen, denn das ist es was ihr fuer die naechste Woche sehen werdet, denn ich fliege ins "Vaterland". Bleibt gesund u munter bis ich zurueck bin!

We leave these for the deer.
There are not many and they are small anyway.
Schaut was sonst noch bei uns waechst.
Diese Aepfel haben sich aus den Blueten entwickelt, die ich im Fruehjahr gezeigt hatte. Wir lassen sie fuer das Wild haengen. Es sind sowieso nicht viele u sie sind klein.

Wild Wine in the Little Forest

These grapes grow down in our fruit field. I am sure the birds will like them!Unten in unserem 'Fruechte-Feld' wachsen diese wilden Weintrauben. Sicherlich werden sie den Voegeln schmecken!

Canada Geese

These days I see a lot of wild geese stopping on their way to warmer climate! This photo was taken one night on our church parking lot! Yesterday I saw a huge flock in a field (I don't think that this made the farmer happy!!)
Zur Zeit sehe ich viele Wildgaense die auf der Durchreise sind. Das hier wurde auf unserem Kirchparkplatz aufgenommen! Gestern sah ich einen Riesenschwarm in einem Feld sitzen (der Bauer hat sich sicher gefreut!!)

Mushrooms in the Little Forest

We don't have many of them, but sometimes I come across an interesting species.
As always, I have no clue what the name is and in general I just assume they are poisonous and we leave them be.
Wir haben auch Pilze im kleinen Wald! Nicht viele, aber ab und zu doch mal welche, die ich interessant finde. Wie immer weiss ich natuerlich nicht den Namen und ob sie giftig sind. Ich gehe aber davon aus und lasse sie deshalb in Ruhe!!

Our Late Summer Mailbox

Barn Cat

We got a little kitty for the barn. 8 weeks old! We hope it will keep the barn mouse free and befriend the horse. We'll see how it goes...So far, so good.
Wir haben nun eine Stallkatze! 8 Wochen alt! Wir hoffen, sie haelt den Stall frei von Maeusen u befreundet das Pferd. Wir werden sehen, wie sich das entwickelt. So weit, so gut.

First Fall Colors in the Little Forest

So far most of the trees are still green, just here and there a few red leaves....Right now we still have great summer weather during the day! Lots of sunshine!
Bisher sind die meisten Baeume noch gruen, nur hier u da ein paar rote Blaetter. Das Wetter ist im Moment noch sommerlich u wir haben viel Sonnenschein!

She is a friend of my sister and that's where I took these photos! I suggested to take a few pictures of her and when I turned around she was standing on the railing of my sister's garden bridge! What to eat at the Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest at Old Heidelberg Restaurant in Bethel, CT

That's where we were this weekend! It was another successful Oktoberfest and everybody had fun.(My sister is the owner of the restaurant and we went there to help)
Hier waren wir also dieses Wochenende! Es war wieder ein erfolgreiches Fest und alle hatten Spass.

On the Road again ...

Here we were driving to town and passed by our 'girls'....
My son took these photos out of the car window.
Wir fuhren in unsere Stadt u kamen an unseren "Maedchen" vorbei. Unser Sohn hat diese Fotos durch das Autofenster aufgenommen.

This is "Bibbi"

When Bibbi was a little chick she was all yellow. Now she is our only white hen.

Als Bibbi ein Kueken war, war sie ganz gelb. Nun ist sie unser einziges weisses Huhn.

This is Speedy

Speedy is our biggest chicken. Our daughter gave her this name because she was so fast, even as a baby. Apparently she complains a lot.... our daughter knows all about the chickens. Speedy doesn't lay eggs yet. In the other photo you see her with Peaches and Lilly.
Speedy ist unser groesstes und schnellstes Huhn (daher der Name - speedy=schnell). Anscheinend meckert sie auch viel, jedenfalls sagt das unsere Tochter, die die Huehner alle gut kennt. Speedy laesst sich Zeit mit dem Eierlegen. Bisher legt sie noch keine. In dem anderen Foto sieht man sie mit Peaches u Lilly.

Meet "Peaches"

When she was little she was peach colored and that's why we named this 'Red Sex-link' chicken "Peaches". She was the first to lay eggs - brown ones.
Darf ich vorstellen: "Peaches" (Pfirsich). Als sie klein war war sie pfirsichfarben u deshalb nennen wir dieses "Red -Sex-link" (das ist die Rasse) so. Sie hat als erste Eier gelegt u zwar braune.

Another Great Day at the Lake!

The last two days we have been blessed with real hot summer weather! Almost record highs (in the low 90s) and the lake was calling!! Very nice to have another chance to lie in the sun and do nothing!
Die letzten zwei Tage wurde uns sommerlich heisses Wetter beschert, fast Rekordtemp. um die 32 Grad C. und der See hat uns gerufen !!
Wie schoen noch mal die Gelegenheit zu haben in der Sonne zu liegen u zu faulenzen!

A Break from the Chicken Posts

This was yesterday early evening. It shows our daughter lounging her horse Miss Daisy Mae in our little forest. My husband cut down some grass and fern for her to do that. Both 'girls' had fun. Our daughter has another clip of it on her blog "Riding Miss Daisy" see link on the right.
Das war gestern gegen Abend. Es zeigt wie unsere Tochter ihr Pferd Daisy Mae loungiert bei uns im kleinen Wald. Mein Mann hat Gras u Farn zurueckgeschnitten um Platz dafuer zu machen. Beide 'Maedchen' hatten Spass! Auf der rechten Seite ist ein Link zu "Riding Miss Daisy" da kann man noch einen Videoclip davon sehen.

"Americana" ...

... is the name of this kind of chicken. Our daughter named her "Hawk". I asked her when she came back from SCHOOL. Yes, today was the first day of school :-(
... ist der Name dieser Rasse. Unsere Tochter nennt sie "Hawk" (Falke). Ich fragte sie danach, als sie aus der Schule kam. Ja, heute war der erste Schultag :-(

We have 10 Chickens...

Wir haben 10 Huehner, 6 verschiedene Sorten. Leider weiss ich nicht alle Namen!! Das hier haben wir "Eagle" genannt.
We have 10 chickens, 6 different kinds, but I don't know all the names. This is a Salmon Faverolle.
We call her "Eagle"(Adler).

Chickens on the Loose

This weekend we allowed our chickens to free roam for a while. Aren't they cute? This week I will show you close-ups of the different kind. We don't let them run around all the time, because we are afraid that the foxes will eat them.
Am Wochenende haben wir die Huehner mal wieder frei laufen lassen. Wir machen das nicht oft, weil wir befuerchten, dass der Fuchs sie holt! Sind sie nicht nett anzusehen? Diese Woche werde ich euch Nahaufnahmen der einzelnen Rassen zeigen.

More "Ring of Fire"

Here you can see the flares that the people put up all along the lake shore at 9 pm. They form the 'ring of fire'.
Hier sieht man die Flackeln die um 9 Uhr rund um den See angezuendet werden. Sie bilden den 'Feuerring'.

Summer's End....

Yesterday was the "Ring of Fire"....fireworks and flares and bon fires along the lake.It always looks great. Summer is coming to an end. It makes me sad, but what can you do.
Gestern war der "Ring of Fire", das ist so etwas wie "Rhein in Flammen" rund um unseren See, mit Feuerwerk, Fackeln und Lagerfeuern. Das sieht immer toll aus. Der Sommer neigt sich dem Ende zu u es stimmt mich traurig, aber was kann man machen...
