Pfifferlinge - Chanterelles

Because of the heavy rain we had in the last week(s) we have a lot of mushrooms in the Little Forest. Now that my friend is here from Germany we EAT them! Or at least a few of them. These are chanterelles and they taste very good in omelettes or Schnitzel-gravy!! It is a lot of work though to clean them and cut them.

This post reminds me of my father. He grew up picking wild mushrooms and eating them. He and his family knew how to identify the good ones versus the poisoness ones. I was always a little nervous when he would pick some out of our yard and cut them up and toss them in an omelett or something. He must know what he's doing because he's still alive!!!

Be careful though!!!

I don't remember Dad ever picking mushrooms out of the yard and eating them! But, as long as you know which are good and which are bad, go for it.

Poisoness- a female poison?

I really like mushrooms in omlets. In fact I like them in salad and your gravy sounds good too... I just wouldn't have a clue which ones you could eat and those you can't.

I think the basket is a great touch for your picture.

Chanterels are such fragrant mushrooms as well as tasty - you are so lucky. I was thinking of going out and looking also but the common land had all pretty much been privatized so there is no place to go :(

Mother and I used to go mushroom picking as I was growing up and am willing to eat what I pick :)

Your basket looks like its full of potato chips! haha
I'm not a hug fan of mushrooms, though.
But yours look pretty.
