On the Way to Town

Whenever I drive by this field I wonder what it is. Can somebody help me? In summer this was the wheat field. After the harvest the farmer planted this. It looks like grass to me. The fresh green looks very impressive in real.

I would think it is either rye grass and will be plowed under or the soil will be turned over by a plow in the spring. Farmers used to do this before commercial fertilizers were made like today. They always planted fields in rye grass seed and then turned it to enrich the soil. They also used to use cow manure and horse manure and pig manure spread with manure spreaders on top of the ground and even on top of this rye grass.

I can't tell either. It looks like grass to me. But then I'm no expert! Whatever it is, it certainly is a lovely green.

oldmanlicoln is pretty much right. in Oregon the farmers do the same thing. and cow manure is defenatly used....trust me we drive past a few farms to parks and they use the same irrigation sprinklers but instead of water it is....uhuh you guessed it..cow manure. but those farms are the best crops we see around.

A beautiful plain, with this herb could be believing in full spring

Yup... looks like grass to me too.

We always called it "winter wheat"...I'm sure it is technically called rye grass. I knew it was something the farmers plowed under in the spring.
