Let's see, whether I can reach this. Just the right food for me. Mal sehen, ob ich dran komme. Gerade das Richtige fuer mich.
I made it! Now I just have to watch out that I don't fall down. Das waer' geschafft. Nun muss ich nur aufpassen, dass ich nicht runter falle!
Oh boy, somebody is coming! Gotta run! Oh jeh, da kommt jemand. Jetzt aber schnell weg!

Forest-Art

Our daughter had to draw a real nature object in school. See the feather on the left? I found it on our trail. I think she did a great job. Unsere Tochter musste ein Naturobjekt fuer die Schule malen. Seht ihr die Feder links? Ich habe sie auf unserem Waldpfad gefunden. Ich finde ihr Werk ist ihr gelungen!

The River Runs Through

Here it is: Our "River"! Sometimes noisy (today!!), sometimes quiet.
The hummingbirds are gone by now. Their feeder on the first photo is replaced with a feeder for all birds of the forest in the meantime. I will show you later.
Hier ist er also: Unser "Fluss"! Manchmal laut (heute!!), manchmal leise.
Die Kolibris sind nicht mehr da (oben, Nektarspender in rot), so haben wir zwischenzeitlich andere Vogelfutterhaeuschen aufgehaengt, die ich spaeter zeigen werde.

What I see in our Road

Sometimes I take walks with the dog along the road. Last weekend it rained a lot and this gully was overflowing! Look at the size of that thing! It always impresses me, so this time I took a photo.
Manchmal laufe ich mit dem Hund die Strasse entlang. Am letzten Wochenende hat es viel geregnet und dieser Abwasserkanal ist uebergelaufen! Schaut euch die Groesse von dem Ding an! Da es mich immer beeindruckt, habe ich mal ein Foto gemacht.

Ernte-Segen

This time of the year it is a "must" to show pumpkins on your blog!! What is it about pumpkins? They are just so big and bright. You have to love them (and we eat the seeds, too!) !Unfortunately they were not from our harvest to be honest. But they are still a blessing (get it?)

Zu dieser Jahreszeit 'muss' man einfach Kuerbisse im Blog zeigen! Was ist es nur, was die 'Pumpkins' so nett macht? Sie sind einfach so gross und bunt. Man muss sie moegen (und wir essen auch die Kerne!)! Leider waren sie nicht von unserer Ernte - wir hatten gar keine im Garten. Und nur so zur Info. am Rande: Pumpkin ist hier auch ein Kosewort.

Looking up

To give you the view of the other side of the house I went down almost into the creek. I took a photo of the house and then turned around and around to show you how it looks like in the other directions. You see the dry creek bed. Since then it has rained a lot and now it is a running water. Um euch die andere Hausseite zu zeigen, bin ich runter bis fast in den Bach gegangen u habe das Haus fotografiert. Dann habe ich mich zwei mal rumgedreht um den Blick in die anderen Richtungen zu zeigen. Man sieht das fast trockene Bachbett. Nun hat es aber viel geregnet und wir haben 'fliessendes Wasser' da unten.

Before and After

The house came with an inefficient fire place. It looked nice but didn't really heat the room. We (better, my husband) searched for a wood-burner-insert, but nothing did fit, so it had to go. Wall and all. Das Haus hatte einen Kamin, der schoen aussah, aber nicht wirklich heizte. So haben wir (besser gesagt, mein Mann) nach einem Holzbrennofeneinsatz (langes Wort!!) gesucht, aber keinen passenden gefunden. Deshalb musste der Kamin samt der Steinwand weg.
With the help of our good contractor-friend we came up with this solution and we are very happy and warm with it! Mit der Hilfe unseres Freundes, der eine Baufirma hat, kamen wir zu dieser Loesung und wir sind sehr zufrieden und warm damit!

The question is, HOW will get Santa Claus through the chimney now?? Nun bleibt die Frage, wie kommt der Nikolaus nun durch den Schornstein in das Haus??

"Monkeys" in the Forest

Here they are, as I promised yesterday. I took these shots beginning of the summer. I was surprised to see the racoon babies so close to our house. I ran back and got the camera and they were still there. Coming from Germany that was a big deal, because there we see these animals only in the zoo.
Wie gestern versprochen, hier sind unsere "Affen". Diese Aufnahmen habe ich am Anfang des Sommers gemacht. Ich war ueberrascht die Waschbaerbabies so nahe an unserem Haus zu sehen. Ich bin zurueckgerannt u habe die Kamera geholt u sie waren noch da. Normalerweise sah ich diese Tiere nur im Zoo, deshalb war das eine 'grosse Sache' fuer mich.

The Bench in the Forest

This bench stands in the middle of the Forest. Sometimes I go there and pray. On the first photo you see the sky above the bench. It is a peaceful place. And Abby, my dog, is always with me, too!
Diese Bank steht mitten im Wald. Manchmal gehe ich da hin und bete. Auf dem ersten Photo sieht man den Himmel ueber der Bank. Es ist friedlich dort. Und mein Hund Abby ist immer dabei.

Berries in the Forest

While walking through the woods about 2 weeks ago, I took these photos. I have no idea what these berries are, but they looked pretty to me!
Als ich vor ca. 2 Wochen durch den Wald lief, habe ich diese Fotos aufgenommen. Keine Ahnung, wie diese Beeren heissen, aber ich dachte mir, sie sehen schoen aus!

Treehouse

Our deck is pretty high because of the way the house is built at a hill. It really has the feel of a treehouse! The leaves are falling now....soon we see our creek again that runs at the bottom.
Weil unser Haus an einen Hang gebaut ist, sitzt die Terrasse ziemlich hoch. Es erinnert wirklich an ein Baumhaus wenn man da draussen ist. Nun fallen die Blaetter ...bald sehen wir unseren Bach wieder, der da unten fliesst.

Lakeside - Am See

Cold Feet .... kalte Fuesse



Columbus Day (Oct. 9th) we went to the Lake - maybe for the last time this year.
The place were we stay is only 10 Min. from our house. On the way we pass vineyards.... it looks like home to me. Vineyards and the River Rhine ;-))
Am Columbus-Feiertag sind wir zum See, vielleicht zum letzten Mal fuer dieses Jahr. Der Hafen, wo wir immer hingehen, ist nur 10 Min. von unserem Haus entfernt. Auf dem Weg kommt man an Weinbergen vorbei; es erinnert mich an 'daheim'...Weinberge und der Rhein ;-)

Sunny days

Well, not really. No sun today, but wind and rain. At least no snow, like Buffalo had last weekend!! Here you see the little stone wall at our house.
Nein, eigentlich nicht. Heute scheint die Sonne nicht, sondern es ist windig und regnerisch. Aber immerhin kein Schnee, wie in Buffalo am letzten Wochenende!
Hier sieht man die kleine Steinmauer am Haus.

This is our creek bed. In summer it dries out completely, but in spring and fall we sometimes have a little river!
Das ist unser Bachbett. Im Sommer ist es ganz trocken, aber im Fruehling und Herbst haben wir manchmal einen richtigen Fluss!

Treestands - Hochstaende

Bow hunting season started on Saturday! In the meantime we have three treestands in our forest. Here are two of them.
Die Pfeil-und-Bogen Jagdsaison hat am Samstag angefangen! Wir haben drei Hochstaende in unserem Wald. Hier koennt ihr zwei sehen.

The Little House 2

Facing the forest is the patio. That house side has windows all the way up.
Zum Wald hin ist unsere Terrasse. Diese Hausseite hat Fenster bis oben hin.

This is the view of the house from the other side. Soon we will get a garage. Das ist der Blick von der anderen Seite. Bald bekommen wir eine Garage.

Rotjaeckchen und der liebe Wolf - (Little Red Riding Coat and the big good Wolf)

It was a glorious day in the Forest! We went on a walk around our property. Down the driveway, through the fruit-field, up the hill and down the hill.
I walk here daily with the dog and sometimes my girl accompanies me. Always a great time of talking and 'adventure'.
Ein herrlicher Tag im Wald! So machten wir einen Spaziergang rund um unser Grundstueck. Die Einfahrt runter, durch das Obstfeld, den Huegel rauf und wieder runter.
Taeglich laufe ich hier mit dem Hund und manchmal begleitet mich mein Maedchen. Es ist immer ein Vergnuegen wenn wir uns unterhalten und Entdeckungen machen.
