Special Butterfly at Our Lake

Zur Zeit fahren wir fast jeden Tag an den See, denn es ist hier im Moment sehr heiss (hurrah! endlich Sommer!) Da kommen wir immer an diesem Blumen-Schmetterling vorbei u ich dachte, ich zeig ihn euch einmal.
Right now we are going to the lake almost daily, because it is very hot (finally summer!) We always pass by this flower-butterfly and I thought I show it to you.

Another One

This dragonfly landed on our patio floor. You can see how big it is compared to our floor planks.
Diese Libelle landete auf unserem Terrassenboden. Ihr koennt sehen, wie gross sie ist im Vergleich zu unseren Holzplanken.

Dragonflies in the Little Forest

We see a lot of different dragonflies everyday. Some are big and some are small, some are black and some are colorful. Here is one of them.
Wir sehen jeden Tag viele Libellen. Manche sind gross u manche sind klein, manche sind schwarz und manche sind bunt. Hier ist eine davon.

Raccoons like the Sweet Nectar, too!

We were wondering already who is emptying our hummingbird feeder over night and last week we saw the culprit with our own eyes! It was near dusk and our dog saw him and chased him to this spot! Apparently he was waiting for the dark and for his dessert! The first two photos I took without flash but long exposure (or how do you explain that in English?!) For the last photo I had my camera in Automatic and it flashed....
Now we bring the feeder in every night!!
Wir wunderten uns schon die ganze Zeit wer ueber Nacht unseren Kolibri Nektar austrinkt und nun sahen wir letzte Woche den Taeter mit eigenen Augen! Es war in der Abenddaemmerung und unser Hund sah den Waschbaeren zuerst und hat ihn hierher gejagt! Scheinbar wartete er schon in der Naehe auf die Dunkelheit und auf seinen Nachtisch!!
Die ersten zwei Fotos habe ich mit langer Belichtung gemacht u bei dem letzten da stand die Kamera auf Automatik u es hat geblitzt.
Nun holen wir abends den 'Saft' immer rein!!

Hummingbird Feeder

We have a hummingbird feeder on our patio and we have a lot of hummingbirds come and drink from it especially in the morning and in the evening. As you can see, Mr. Hummingbird is drinking while standing in the air and on the last photo you can the the female, sitting down. Tomorrow I will show you another animal that is also very interested in the sweet drink!
Wir haben eine Futterstelle fuer Kolibris auf unserer Terrasse und es kommen auch viele um daran zu drinken, vor allem morgens und abends. Wie man hier sehen kann, trinkt der Herr Kolibri waehrend er sozusagen in der Luft steht. Auf dem letzten Foto sieht man ein Weibchen, das im Sitzen trinkt. Letzteres Foto habe ich von innen aufgenommen.
Morgen zeige ich euch ein anderes Tier das auch noch sehr an diesem suessen Trunk interessiert ist!

On Our Way to Town

A few days ago we stopped and I took a few photos of our daughter at the edge of the big wheat field. We made sure not to trample the plants! We have seen other photos of photographers where they used the wheat as a backdrop and I wanted to try it out, too. Enlarge the pictures to get the full effect!
Yesterday I drove by and noticed that the field is mowed.
Vor ein paar Tagen haben wir an dem grossen Weizenfeld angehalten und ich habe am Rand ein paar Fotos von unserer Tochter gemacht. Wir haben aufgepasst, die Pflanzen nicht zu zertrampeln! Ich hatte andere Fotos gesehen, wo der Fotograf ein Kornfeld im Hintergrund benutzte u ich wollte das auch mal ausprobieren. Vergroessert die Fotos um den richtigen Effekt zu bekommen!
Gestern fuhr ich vorbei u sah das Feld ist nun abgemaeht.

Deer in the Little Forest

The other day when I drove down the driveway I saw this deer and for once I had my camera in the car! We have a lot of deer in our woods and right now we see a lot of babies, too, but unfortunately not with this one.
Kuerzlich, als ich die Einfahrt runter fuhr, sah ich dieses Reh und hatte sogar mal meine Kamera dabei! Wir haben viele Rehe in unserem Wald und zur Zeit sehen wir auch viele Bambis, aber leider nicht mit diesem.

Immer wenn ich unsere Heidelbeeren sehe, denke ich zurueck an meine Kindheit, als ich im Schwarzwald in Ferien war.
Whenever I see our blueberries, I think back to my childhood when I was on vacation in the Black Forest.

Watching the Grass Grow

The other day I had a fun photo session with our daughter and this is one of the photos.
Nach dem nicht so schoenen Schlangen-Post von gestern dachte ich mir, ihr schaut euch lieber was schoenes an! Ich habe vor ein paar Tagen eine lustige "Foto-Session" mit meiner Tochter gehabt u das ist eins von den Bildern die da entstanden.

Snakes in the Little Forest

The first thing we saw when we bought our house was a snake skin! So it came to no surprise to us that we have many garter snakes around our house. Especially in the little rock wall near our entrance we see them lying in the sun a lot. I don't really like snakes, but I am not afraid of them either, because I know they are harmless. I just want them to stay outside!!
Das erste was wir sahen, als wir unser Haus gekauft haben, war eine Schlangenhaut! Daher hat es uns nicht ueberrascht, dass wir viele Strumpfbandnattern um unser Haus herum haben. Vor allem in der kleinen Steinmauer an der Seite wo unser Eingang ist, sehen wir sie oft in der Sonne liegen. Ich kann sie zwar nicht besonders leiden, aber ich habe auch keine Angst, denn ich weiss, dass sie harmlos sind. Ich will nur, dass sie draussen bleiben!!
