Hay Day Part I

On Tuesday afternoon until night we were helping to make hay! We have never done that before, it was hard work but also a lot of fun! We got into a deal with three other families, where we all help to bale the hay and bring it in (in different barns) and in return get 'our' hay for free! One of the families involved owns the farmland and equipment. They are glad that they got their hay in and they can also sell some of it. All around a great deal! Everybody is happy!

On the first photo you see the farmer baling the hay (after he had already mowed the field and it dried for a couple of days). Our task was to walk next to the truck (or drive the truck) and pick it up. These hay bales are HEAVY!! It was hot! But we got a lot done.
There were actually three different trucks involved and I was lucky to be the driver most of the time (haha) Tomorrow I will show how we put it away.

What beautiful photos! I particularly love the composition in the first shot. Making hay is really hard work! I used to help my Dad make hay. Now he has switched to the big round bales so it is much easier. You all must have been tired at the end of the day!

Lori and Olivier, thanks for stopping by faithfully on my blog!
Yes, it was hard and we were very tired at night, but also happy about our accomplishment.
Lori, you are a real farm girl, living in the big city now! Wow.
Big difference, right?

That does look like hard work. I would like to drive the truck too. ha ha But, it would probably make me sneeze and cough. Maybe I should let you drive the truck afterall.

That's true, it is a big difference living in the city after living on a farm. It certainly took some getting used to! I always look forward to going back to visit though!

Now your really farming!! How fun for you! I'm with Martha on the allergy issue. Martha, lets be the go-fers and bring the "thirsty farmers" ice tea and lemonade :o)

Those are great photos! I could just smell the fresh cut hay!

That looked like a lot of hard work! But it also looks like it pays off to all pitch in with the work.... What a great idea!

Great photos of the hay baling.

When I was a teen, a good friend of mine's family owned a farm in southern Arkansas. (We lived in Monroe, Louisiana at the time.)

We would go up there in the summers and help them bale hay and put it away. Easily some of the hardest work I've ever done. Sure did make the ice cold water and Dr. Pepper taste good though.
