Is it a hawk?
I'm almost certain it's a red-tailed hawk. Looks very much like the second photo under "Field Marks" here. We have them around here quite often.

haha thanks Gudrun. Yes, that is a red-tailed hawk. They're really easy to identify because of the underside of their tail!
