This week is - once again - Ontario County Fair and yesterday Melissa had the pleasure of jumping Bubba! That was the first time that they were going over big jumps like that and I think they looked great. In her division were only three riders, and Melissa placed second.
Diese Woche ist schon wieder der Kreis-Jahrmarkt und Melissa ist gestern auf Bubba im Wettkampf geritten. Das war das erste Mal, dass sie so grosse Hindernisse gesprungen ist u ich finde, sie sah klasse aus! Es waren nur drei Reiter in ihrer Altersgruppe u Melissa hat den 2. Platz belegt.

Friends

Last week Melissa had her friend over who is training a guiding eyes for the blind dog, a puppy in training. This is already her second dog she's working with, named Dahlia.The first one is with its partner, a blind man in Oklahoma.
Letzte Woche hatte Melissa Besuch von ihrer Freundin, die Blindenhunde ausbildet. Dieser hier ist schon der zweite mit dem sie arbeitet. Der erste ist nun mit einem blinden Mann in Oklahoma.

Daisy went swimming!

Melissa hatte es sich in den Kopf gesetzt, mit Daisy an den See zu fahren u sie schwimmen zu lassen. Heute hat es dann wirklich geklappt! Zusammen mit ihrer Trainerin - Jean auf Bubba u Melissa auf Daisy u vielen Zuschauern an Land! Es hat total Spass gemacht. Erst waren die Pferde aengstlich u wussten nicht, was sie von dem grossen Wasser halten sollten, aber dann hat man gemerkt, fanden sie es auch gut! Auf dem ersten Foto ueberredet Melissa Daisy ins Wasser zu gehen! Sie wollte erst nicht!
For a while already Melissa had planned to go 'swimming' with Daisy. Today her dream came true! Together with Jean and Bubba and many onlookers on shore!
First the horses were a little sceptical, but then they liked it, too! On the first photo you see Melissa talking to Daisy, letting her know that is is ok to go in the water!

Happy 4th of July!

We were walking in the parade again, with Melissa's 4H Club, the 'Yautzy Road Yahoos'. It was a lot of fun. Melissa was riding Bubba again. It is a hot summer day. Perfect!!
Wir sind heute wieder in der Parade mitgelaufen. Und zwar mit Melissa's Club "die Yautzy Road Yahoos". Melissa wieder auf Bubba. Es hat total Spass gemacht. Es ist heute ein heisser Sommertag, also richtiges Feiertagswetter! Gary hat diese Fotos vor dem Rheinblick auf dem Buergersteig aufgenommen.

Blue Skies

The sun is out, we have blue skies, but it is a little chilly for July ... oh well.
Die Sonne scheint u der Himmel ist blau, aber zur Zeit ist es fuer Juli etwas kuehl... kann man nichts machen...

Summer Fun

We finally have summer vacation and Melissa is very happy that she can fully, totally concentrate on her riding hobby ;-) Today a friend came by and they went riding together.
Nun haben wir endlich Sommerferien u Melissa ist gluecklich, dass sie sich voll u ganz auf ihr Hobby, das Reiten, konzentrieren kann! Heute kam eine Freundin vorbei u sie sind zusammen ausgeritten.

Fruehschoppen beim Rheinblick Sommerfest

Das war gestern am fruehen Nachmittag. Die Band heisst Genesee Valley Band. Das Maedchen kann gut jodeln!
That was yesterday at our summer fest. The band is called Genesee Valley Band! They played in the early afternoon till 6 pm. They are great! This girl can yodel!!

Ladd is Melissa's trainer's other horse and Melissa has the great opportunity to ride him this summer! He is even bigger than Bubba - he is 17.1 hands! Melissa was sweating at the end of this lesson!!Compare this photo with the one of Bubba underneath. THAT'S how big Ladd is!!
Das ist das andere Pferd von Melissa's Trainerin. Melissa darf ihn diesen Sommer reiten, weil die Besitzerin nicht so viel Zeit hat. Sie war schwer am Schwitzen!! Er ist noch groesser als Bubba. sein Ruecken ist ungefaehr so hoch wie ich gross bin (179!)Hier hat sie gerade eine Reiststunde. Vergleicht mal dieses Foto mit dem untendrunter mit Bubba. SO gross ist Ladd! Riesig!

Playing with my new Phone

For my birthday I got this cool new phone (Droid) and this morning, while Melissa was riding Bubba, I tested the filming part of it.

Zum Geburtstag bekam ich dieses coole neue Telefon ("Droid") u heute habe ich zum ersten mal ausprobiert wie man damit filmt... Melissa auf Bubba.

A Good Find at Daytona Beach

Another trip to Florida!!
It will be hot! But that is exactly what we want to experience! See how Florida is in summer....
This time we will spend a few days in Daytona Beach, but also drive around.
Zum dritten Mal geht's nach Florida! Es wird heiss sein! Aber das genau wollen wir dort mal 'erleben' u sehen wie es dort im Sommer so ist. Wir werden ein paar Tag in Daytona Beach sein, aber auch rumfahren. Diese Fotos hier sind von New Smyrna Beach wo wir letztes Mal waren, das ist ganz in der Naehe von Daytona.

Sad Story

These are pictures of trees in our little forest. Last week we had a very frosty night and this is what happened to about a forth of our trees on the hill. I have never sees this before. What can you do...
Das ist eine traurige Geschichte: Die Bilder zeigen unsere Baeume im kleinen Wald. Letzte Woche hatten wir noch mal eine Nacht mit Frost u das ist nun mit ungefaehr einem viertel unserer Baeume auf unserem Huegel passiert! So was hatte ich noch nie gesehen.

The Day After...

...I think Markus said five buildings burned down. They were able to rescue a lumber yard across the street! The fire was started by teenagers.
Das war am Tag danach. Fuenf Gebaeude sind abgebrannt. Sie konnten aber eine Holzhandlung gegenueber retten. Das Feuer wurde von Teenagern gelegt.

Big Fire in Salamanca

The day before Mother's Day there was a HUGE fire in the city where my oldest son is a firefighter. These are some of the photos he collected. In the last picture he is actually in the building, on the top floor on the right, shortly before this building caught fire from the building across the street!
The second picture shows him, too!
Am Samstag vor Muttertag war in der Stadt in der Markus arbeitet ein Riesenfeuer. Das sind ein paar von den Bildern die Markus gesammelt hat. Im letzten Bild ist er noch im Gebaeude, zusammen mit einem Freund, bevor das Feuer rueberkam, innerhalb von 5 Minuten!! Auf dem zweiten Foto ist er auch abgebildet.
