New Friend

Our daughter found a new riding buddy in the neighborhood! That makes the whole horse experience even more fun! Daisy-Mae doesn't care much about the other horse though.
Unsere Tochter hat eine neue Reiterfreundin gefunden! Sie wohnt bzw. reitet nicht weit von hier. Zu zweit macht alles mehr Spass! Daisy-Mae ist es aber anscheinend egal ob da ein Freund ist oder nicht!

The Gate to the Little Forest

Lateley, whenever I walk around our property and pass this piece along the road, I think this looks like a gate, like an entrance to our ' little forest'. Can you imagine it, too?
I also love the colors that we can see right now. When you enlarge the photos it looks even more beautiful.
"Enter through the narrow gate" comes to mind.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. -- Matthew 7:13-14

In letzter Zeit wenn ich um unser Grundstueck laufe u komme an dieses Stueck entlang der Strasse, dann denke ich immer das sieht wie ein Tor aus, dass in unseren kleinen Wald fuehrt. Seht ihr es auch?
Mir gefallen auch die verschiedenen Farben wie im Bild zwei zu sehen. Wenn man die Fotos vergroessert, kommt die Schoenheit noch mehr raus.
Ich denke dann oft an das enge Tor:
Geht durch das enge Tor! Denn das Tor ist weit, das ins Verderben führt, und der Weg dahin ist breit, und viele gehen auf ihm. Aber das Tor, das zum Leben führt, ist eng und Weg dahin ist schmal, und nur wenige finden ihn. Matthaeus 7:13-14

Dessert

We have a lady who bakes the German Dessert Cakes for our restaurant, but the last couple of days the cakes were so high in demand, that I had to help out a bit, too. So I made these... they were well liked, too!
Wir haben eine Frau die uns Kuchen fuer Nachtisch fuer das Lokal backt (Apfelstrudel, Kaesekuchen, Bienenstich, Linzer Torte, Schwarzwaelder Kirsch). Die letzten zwei Tage war der Nachtisch so gefragt, dass ich selbst auch was backen musste. Auch meine Obsttorte war beliebt.
Ueberhaupt kommt das deutsche Essen sehr gut an!

The New Saddle

This is the long talked about, waited for, new English saddle!
Our daughter was saving her Christmas and Birthday Money for that. It took a long time for her to make a decision, but finally it is here and she is happy with it, too. (she showed it on her blog a couple of weeks ago and I am just now getting to it)
Das ist der lang ersehnte u erwartete englische Sattel! Unsere Tochter hat ihr Weihnachtsgeld u Geburtstagsgeld dafuer verwendet u lange ueberlegt, bevor sie eine Wahl getroffen hat. Nun ist er also da u die Reiterin ist sehr zufrieden damit! (sie hatte das schon vor ein paar Wochen gezeigt, aber ich komme erst heute dazu)

For Heidi

Yesterday before Heidi left we went for a walk and admired these little flowers in our little forest. We have many of them!
Heidi, thank you again for all your help! Your advice, your cakes, your cooking, your laughter, everything will be missed. It was great having you here! Best wishes from all of us in the Little House in the Forest!

Visitor at the Door

This is a stick insect, it looks like a piece of wood, approx. 4 inches long. Interesting fellow on our front door!
Das ist eine Stabheuschrecke, die uns gestern an unserer Haustuer besucht hat. Ca. 7 cm lang. Ist das nicht ein interessantes Kerlchen? Sieht aus wie ein Stueck Holz mit Beinen.

Too bad, summer is over! Today the school started again. But it is still very warm.

Welcome to Rheinblick German Restaurant

Last night we had our first guests in our newly opened restaurant! We had a Pre-Opening Invitation Dinner for the people who helped get the restaurant ready. Everybody was very pleased.

Gestern Abend hatten wir die ersten Gaeste im neuen Lokal! Wir hatten alle Helfer zu einem "Probe-Essen" eingeladen. Es hat allen gut geschmeckt u gefallen.
Heute ist unser erster offizieller Tag.

Ring of Fire

Last night was the traditional 'Ring of Fire' around our lake. That is how the community celebrates the end of the summer. It was a wonderful summer night that we spent at our friend's house. The summer was way too short. Thankfully, next week the weather will still be hot.
Gestern Abend war der traditionelle "Ring of Fire", unser "See in Flammen" sozusagen, wo alle Leute rund um den See den Sommerabschied feiern. Es war eine laue Sommernacht u wunderschoen. Wir waren bei einer Freundin, die ein Haus direkt am Wasser hat, eingeladen. Der Sommer war mal wieder viel zu kurz. Allerdings soll es naechste Woche auch noch sehr sommerlich sein!

Up- Up in the Tree

Our daughter came back from her trail ride and told me she saw this huge bee's nest (yellow jackets?) high above her in a tree. So I had to find it, too and check it out. It is about 15 inches in length!
Unsere Tochter kam von ihrem Ritt durch den Wald zurueck u berichtete mir ueber ihre Entdeckung die sie gemacht hatte: Ein grosses Wespennest hoch oben im Baum. Das musste ich mir dann auch mal ansehen! Es ist ca. 30 cm hoch!

I treated myself to this indoor plant and I am always happy when it blooms (it actually has many blossoms)
Diese Passionsblume habe ich mir kuerzlich gekauft u es freut mich immer, wenn sie eine Bluete hat.

Walk through the Apple Orchard

My blogger friend Martha lives very close to Lake Ontario and naturally we had to stop and say hi to her. She showed us her beautiful surroundings! A very peaceful place to live!
Meine Blogger-Freundin Martha wohnt ganz nahe am Ontario See u da mussten wir natuerlich mal anhalten u hallo sagen. Sie hat uns ihre Umgebung gezeigt, sie wohnt direkt neben einer riesengrossen Apfelplantage. Schoen fuer Spaziergaenge, so friedlich.

Yesterday we made a day trip to Sodus Point on Lake Ontario. It was a wonderful day!
Gestern haben wir einen Ausflug zum Ontario See gemacht (1 Std. von hier). Es war wunderschoen!

Yesterday and today we were enjoying the lake and the sun to the very end...until the sun went down behind the cliff!
Gestern u auch heute haben wir uns am See 'verlustiert'...die Sonne u das Wasser genossen, bis die Sonne hinter dem Kliff unterging.

Holz vor der Huetten

Wir leben im Wald u bekamen Holz geliefert!! Mein Mann hat keine Zeit Holz zu machen...
Wir sind mit Rheinblick beschaeftigt, aber wenn die Sonne scheint machen wir auch mal ein Paeuschen (jedenfalls die Damen ;-))
We live in the Forest, but we had wood delivered!! My husband has not time to cut wood. ... We are busy with "Rheinblick", but now and then we do find time to lie in the sun (at least the ladies ;-))

Mushrooms in the Little Forest

Mushroom, mushrooms and more mushrooms.... Like I told you before, because of the rain they are growing like crazy here in our woods. They look interesting, don't they? We are eating only two kinds.
Pilze, Pilze und noch mehr Pilze.... Wie schon gesagt, wegen dem vielen Regen wachsen sie hier zur Zeit wie wild. Sie sehen interessant aus, oder? Allerdings essen wir nur zwei Arten.

A Day in the Life of the "Forest People" ;-)

Summer is going by fast! Every day we do some work for the upcoming German Restaurant (plan is to open up by the end of this month) and every day we have some fun time, too! Yesterday the weather was great so we headed to the City Pier to show our guest the boat houses there. The afternoon was spend at the lake with a surprise visit of our oldest son who even went with us in the woods to gather mushrooms. Our friend knows 'her' mushrooms and she acts like she is in mushroom-heaven!! Right now she is still harvesting chanterelles and boletus'.
Der Sommer geht so schnell vorbei! Jeden Tag arbeiten wir etwas fuer das dt. Lokal (wir hoffen Ende des Monats zu eroeffnen) aber jeden Tag machen wir auch etwas Nettes. Gestern war tolles Wetter u da haben wir unserem Gast mal die Bootshaeuser am City Pier gezeigt. Den Nachmittag haben wir am See verbracht wo uns auch unser aeltester Sohn mit einem Besuch ueberrascht hat. Er ist dann abends sogar mit uns in den Wald gegangen Pilze zu suchen. Unsere dt. Freundin befindet sich hier im "Pilz-Himmel". Im Moment bringt sie noch immer Pfifferlinge u nun auch Steinpilze heim.

I am looking through all the photos that I shot two weeks ago at the county fair and I wanted to show you this one. The girl was riding this huge draft horse and was competing in a game. The horse is cantering and when you saw it it was mighty and loud, too!

Ich habe nochmal durch meine Fotos von vor zwei Wochen geschaut u wollte euch noch dieses Maedchen auf dem Zugpferd zeigen. Sie war da gerade dabei ein Staffellauf zu beenden u das Pferd galoppierte hier gerade. Es war wirklich maechtig anzuschauen u auch laut! Riesig.

Diese Fotos wurden mir von M. Trainer geschickt. Wie man sehen kann, hatte sie viel Spass im Pferde-Camp, nicht nur mit den Pferden, auch auf dem Quatt!
