Our World is white again

Yesterday afternoon and evening it snowed again - a little. Just enough to make everything look pretty. From out here in the white Forest I am sending you best wishes for a nice New Year's Eve!

Gestern Nachmittag und Abend hat es wieder ein wenig geschneit. Gerade genug, damit alles schoen aussieht. Von hier draussen im weissen Wald sende ich euch die besten Wuensche fuer einen schoenen Silvester Abend!

Snow in the Little Forest!

Finally some snow! This is the view I had yesterday morning when I stepped out of the house.

Endlich etwas Schnee! Das war der Blick unsere Einfahrt runter gestern morgen.

Finished Garage

Somebody asked me the other day, whether the garage is finished! Yes, it is and we use it, too! Jemand fragte mich kuerzlich, ob unsere Garage fertig ist. Ja, das ist sie und wir benutzen sie auch!

Fruit Field

Here you see the berries that I showed last week again. This is taken from the road. You look into our land. First is the 'fruit field' and behind it is the forest. Nature is winding down. Hardly any green left. ..Still no snow..

Hier seht ihr wieder die Beeren von letzter Woche. Das Bild ist von unserer Strasse aus aufgenommen. Man sieht in unser Grundstueck hinein. Erst kommt das Obstfeld und dahinter ist der Wald. Die Natur zieht sich zurueck. Kaum noch gruen...und immer noch kein Schnee.

Christmas Flower

Every Christmas season I grow a couple of Amaryllis plants. It is a tradition that my mother had when I was growing up. Jedes Jahr in der Weihnachtszeit ziehe ich eine oder zwei Amaryllispflanzen hoch. Das ist eine Tradition die Mama hatte als ich klein war.

Advent-Calendars in the Little House

The first photo shows a self-made Advent Calendar that my daughter made 5 years ago. Very detailed and cute! That's why we kept it and 're-use' it yearly.

The other one is a typical German Advent calendar with glitter, the kind we had when we were children. I found it here in the Hallmark store a few years ago.Enlarge the photos! It's worth it!

Das erste Bild zeigt einen selbstgemachten Adventskalender, den meine Tochter vor 5 Jahren gebastelt hat. Er ist sehr detailliert und goldig! Deshalb haben wir ihn behalten und haengen ihn jedes Jahr wieder auf.

Der andere ist ein typisch deutscher Adventskalender mit Glitter. Diese Art Kalender hatten wir schon, als wir Kinder waren. Ich fand diesen vor ein paar Jahren hier im Hallmark-Laden. Vergroessert die Fotos! Es lohnt sich!

Still some color

Doesn't that look like a painting? I love those last colors of the year. This is also on our property.

Sieht das nicht wie ein Gemaelde aus? Mir gefallen diese letzten Farben des Jahres. Das ist auch auf unserem Grundstueck aufgenommen.

White as Snow

I took this photo in November in our "Fruit Field". No idea what kind of a bush that is. It reminded me of cotton. I thought it looked cool.
Dieses Foto habe ich im November bei uns in der "Obst-Plantage" aufgenommen. Keine Ahnung was das fuer ein Busch ist. Es erinnerte mich an Baumwolle. Flocken, so weiss wie Schnee.
Ich dachte mir, es sieht 'cool' aus.

Little House got a Christmas Tree, too

Last week my son and I went out and got our tree. It was fun and we laughed a lot!

Letzte Woche sind mein Sohn und ich losgefahren den Baum zu holen. Es hat Spass gemacht und wir haben viel gelacht.

Nature's Curls - Gruss an Tante Erika!!

Als ich diese "Locken" in unserem Wald sah, habe ich sofort an Tante Erika gedacht (die einen Friseurladen hatte, wo ich als Kind ausgeholfen habe) !!

Sind das nicht perfekte Schillerlocken?

When I saw these "curls" in our forest, I was immediately reminded of my Aunt Erika (who owned a hairdresser shop and I used to help out there when I was a child) !!

Not our Tree

This tree stands in a State Park close to where we live. We went there Thanksgiving weekend with our friends. If you look closely you see the beautiful tree carries a fruit in the middle of the trunk ;-))

Dieser Baum steht in einem oeffentlichen Park nicht weit von uns. Am Thanksgiving- Wochenende sind wir mit unseren Freunden dort gewesen. Wenn man genau hinsieht, entdeckt man in der Mitte des Stammes eine "Frucht".

Old Tree in our Road

When I walk on the road with Abby, I sometimes pass this tree and it always impresses me, because it is so big and hanging on to life! The photo is more impressive when you click on it and enlarge it.

Wenn ich mit Abby die Strasse entlang laufe, komme ich manchmal an diesem Baum vorbei. Er beeindruckt mich immer, weil er so gross ist und so einen Lebenswillen hat? Das Foto wirkt besser, wenn man es durch draufcklicken vergroessert.

Another Pet

This is Freckles, we also call her Frekky. Somebody called her 'ugly cat' the other day, but we still love her very much. She has a lot of personality and is very loveable and huggable. She also loves to eat....so.... she fits right in with our family!!

Das ist Freckles, die wir auch Frekky nennen. Sie ist ungefaehr 6 Jahre alt. Kuerzlich hat sie jemand 'haessliche Katze' genannt , aber wir lieben sie trotzdem sehr. Sie hat Persoenlichkeit und ist sehr liebenswuerdig und anhaenglich. Sie isst auch sehr gerne....so passt sie also gut in unsere Familie!!

Early Morning

Our daughter gets picked up by the schoolbus early in the morning (6.40) That's when I took the photo. Unsere Tochter wird schon frueh morgens vom Schulbus abgeholt (6.40). Da habe ich mal ein Foto gemacht.

We have Pets in the Little House

Besides Abby, whom you see all the time, we have this pet. It's "April", our daughter's hamster. She is only about half a year old and grew a lot since she lives out here in the forest!! She is cute. Although she keeps us up sometimes at night, because she is busy and makes noise ;-)

Ausser Abby, die ihr dauerend seht, haben wir dieses Haustier. Es ist "April", der Hamster unserer Tochter. Sie ist nur ein halbes Jahr alt u viel gewachsen, seit wir sie hier draussen im Wald haben!! Sie ist goldig. Obwohl.... manchmal haelt sie uns nachts wach indem sie viele Geraeusche macht, wenn sie in ihrem Kaefig am schaffen ist!

Erbacher Weg - Abschied/Farewell

Well, we are back home in the forest!! But as a farewell photo I will show you the house we just sold, the house we lived in before we moved to America. It is a douplex and we lived on the left side of it (this is for you, Greg ;-) The other photo shows the view you have from the front bedroom window. The red brick church is the one protestant church of the town. In the background you see the old castle again.

Nun gut. Wir sind also wieder daheim im Wald. Trotzdem zeige ich als Abschiedsfoto sozusagen noch das Haus in dem wir wohnten bevor wir nach Amerika zogen. Es ist ein Doppelhaus und wir wohnten auf der linken Seite. Das andere Foto zeigt die Aussicht die man von dem vorderen Schlafzimmer hat. Die rote Backsteinkirche ist die evangelische Kirche vom Ort. Im Hintergrund sieht man wieder die alte Burg.

Forest Art - Coming Home today!!

When I came home from a trip a while ago I found this sign at the door. Doesn't that say LOVE all over it? Als ich vor einiger Zeit von einer Reise heimkam, fand ich dieses Plakat an der Tuer. Ist es nicht mit Liebe gemacht?

Another Walk through the Vineyards

This is the view you have when you come back from the hill, from the "Scharfenstein"Ruin. Notice how many people are going for a walk!

Eltville

This is the neighboring town, I was actually born in Eltville. These old houses were beautifully restored a few years ago.

St. Valentine Church (Valentinuskirche)

This is the church I was raised in. It is catholic. It origins back to the 13th century. It has the oldest playable organ of Germany in it (from 1500 something) and my father was the organ player for 60 years.

Scharfenstein

Remember the walk from yesterday? If we would have walked a little further we would have come to this old tower, the ruin of an old castle overlooking the Rhine valley, from the 13th century (I think)

Cross in the Vineyards

In Germany people like to go for walks, just for fun and for exercise. This cross is outside of my hometown in the vineyards. I used to not pay attention to the meaning of it. But that is different now! I honor and love the Lord and I will not walk by without noticing it!

Kiddrich

This is my hometown, it is in the Rhine Valley. It is a village of about 3500 people (here you see only the old part of it) It was founded approx. 1000 years ago. This is where I am right now!!

Flying home

This is the house were I grew up in. My Mom still lives here. I will stay with her for one week. Today is the day that I will fly home.

This is the last one, the last flower of the year I mean. Also from last month.
